Pricing checked 22 September 2026
Xero publishes the announced New Zealand price change and its conditions on its official pricing-update page. Xero prices in this article are NZD excluding GST.
Xero’s New Zealand subscription price changes take effect on 1 October 2026. This is a useful time for accounting firms to review whether each client is using the accounting software and plan that best fits what they actually need.
The question is not whether Xero is a good product. It is. For many businesses, particularly those using its wider range of features and connected apps, Xero will remain a strong fit. But not every small business has the same requirements.
What is changing on 1 October?
Xero says its standard New Zealand business-plan prices will change as follows:
| Xero plan | Current monthly price | New monthly price from 1 October 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Ignite | NZ$35 | NZ$37 |
| Grow | NZ$83 | NZ$89 |
| Comprehensive | NZ$110 | NZ$117 |
| Ultimate | NZ$125 | NZ$135 |
All figures in the table are NZD excluding GST. Xero also says that, on the Ultimate plan, the charge for each employee above the ten included employees will increase from NZ$1 to NZ$2 per employee per month, excluding GST.
Its multi-organisation discount will begin to be phased out from 1 October and will no longer apply to eligible subscriptions. Existing Xero discounts and promotional codes continue until they expire. See Xero’s official New Zealand pricing update for the full conditions.
Individually, some of these changes may not look large. Across a portfolio of clients and a full year, they make it sensible to review what each client is paying for and using.
Does every client need the same level of accounting software?
Probably not.
Accounting firms support clients with very different needs. Some businesses need payroll, multi-currency, projects, more extensive analysis or connected apps. For those businesses, a broader Xero plan may be entirely appropriate. Xero’s current New Zealand plan information describes those options.
Other straightforward small businesses mainly need to:
- import and reconcile transactions;
- code their day-to-day bookkeeping accurately;
- keep GST records up to date;
- produce straightforward financial reports; and
- share clear information with their accountant.
For those clients, simplicity can be an advantage. More functionality does not necessarily make everyday bookkeeping easier. It can sometimes mean more software to navigate than the client needs.
An option for straightforward client bookkeeping
CashManager Cloud is designed for this simpler end of the small-business market. For supported New Zealand banks, EziFeed can automatically import transactions for reconciliation. The product also supports transaction coding, GST preparation and the reports a small business and its accountant need. Australian automatic bank feeds are coming soon.
CashManager Cloud has preferential partner options for New Zealand firms subscribing on behalf of clients, resulting in a cost of NZ$15 including GST per month per client.
That can make it useful as another option within a firm’s software toolkit, rather than as a replacement for every client’s existing system. A client making extensive use of Xero’s broader features may have no reason to change. But a small business using only a fraction of those features may be worth reviewing.
It does not have to be an all-or-nothing decision
Choosing accounting software does not mean deciding that one platform must suit every client in a practice. Different clients have different requirements.
For accounting firms, having a simple, lower-cost option available can make it easier to match the software to the client, rather than expecting every client to fit the same software model.
Review client fit, not just subscription cost
With the October price changes approaching, ask: What does this client actually need from their accounting software? For some, the answer will still be Xero. For others, something simpler may be enough.
