New Zealand businesses will need to up their game if they are going to keep the best talent on board, as a report indicates that employees are increasingly in search of other opportunities. Hudson's Salary and Employment Insights Guide 2014 found 58.2 per cent of workers are actively or passively looking for new roles, with many in search of a higher salary or remuneration package. Other reasons cited by survey respondents include finding a role they are more interested in and seeking an organisational culture that will make them feel happy. Roman Rogers, executive general manager at Hudson New Zealand, explained how companies are nevertheless confident about what the future has in store. Almost two-thirds believe they will meet or exceed targets over the next six months. "With employees feeling restless and the labour market tightening, the time is now for organisations to act, to scale their businesses, secure the best talent and take advantage of the opportunities that an improving economy offers," he commented. Of the survey's respondents, 13.3 per cent said they are looking for better training and development within the workplace, which could encourage bosses to offer insights into small business software. Greater flexibility surrounding working hours was cited by 11.4 per cent, while 5.5 per cent said increased leave would encourage them to stay with their existing organisation. Employees were also asked to name the package benefits they value most - bonuses ranked the highest with 68.9 per cent of respondents, followed by more annual leave with 48.6 per cent. Flexible working conditions (37.4 per cent), increased superannuation (35.7 per cent) and private health insurance (35.4 per cent) made up the remainder of the top five. Mr Rogers stressed that employers must have more than just a better salary to offer their workers in order to keep them on side.
